All Korean Airports: Which One Are You Landing At?

Korea has four airports that matter to travelers: Incheon, Gimpo, Gimhae (Busan), and Jeju. They are not interchangeable, and getting the wrong one confused for another wastes real time on arrival day. Gimpo (GMP): The Downtown Airport

Gimpo sits inside Seoul itself, at Gangseo-gu, with a compact two-story international terminal — arrivals on 1F, departures on 2F. Its main advantage over Incheon is proximity: Gimpo Airport Station is a five-line transit hub (subway lines 5 and 9, AREX, the Gimpo Gold Line, and reportedly a fifth connection) right at the terminal.

Here's the point worth remembering: the limousine buses that leave Gimpo's international terminal, 6003 and 6014, do not go into downtown Seoul. Both run toward the city's southwest (Daerim, Mokdong, Gwangmyeong) and onward to Incheon — not toward Myeongdong or City Hall. Confusing them with Incheon's downtown routes sends you the wrong direction entirely.

The real answer for downtown is the subway: line 9 express toward Gangnam (~30 min, reported figure varies by source) or the AREX all-stop line toward Hongdae (~15 min, direct, no transfer). Gimhae (PUS): Getting Into Busan

Despite the name, Gimhae International Airport is actually in Busan's Gangseo-gu, not the city of Gimhae — an old administrative boundary that stuck to the name after 1978. Your fastest route into the city is the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail (BGL), transferring to subway Line 2 at Sasang or Line 3 at Daejeo. To Seomyeon, that's reported at about 33 minutes and ~₩2,100 with one transfer; to Busan Station it's about 47 minutes and ~₩2,300 with two transfers.

Watch the limousine bus numbers — they changed. Service was suspended through most of 2024 after the operator's license lapsed, then relaunched on 2025-07-31 under a new operator with the route numbers flipped from before. As of now, Limousine 1 serves Haeundae and Gijang (₩9,500, about 1 hour 50 minutes, 21 round trips a day), while Limousine 2 serves Seomyeon and Bujeon (₩6,000, after a fare cut that took effect 2026-01-05). Jeju (CJU): Getting Around the Island

Jeju has no subway and no rail line at all, which makes it the odd one out among the four. A rental car is the practical default, especially for spread-out destinations like Jungmun, Seongsan, or Aewol where bus intervals run long.

To reach the Rental Car House, head for Gate 3 or Gate 5, cross the crosswalk out front, and follow the canopy signage marked "Rental Car House." Each company runs its own shuttle from there, so check your specific company's platform number once you arrive — they aren't shared across operators.

If you're skipping a car, limousine bus 600 threads through the Jungmun resort strip — hotels like the Shilla, Suites, Kensington, and Grand Josun — boarding from Gate 5. Bus 800 runs a similar direction to Seogwipo but skips Jungmun entirely, so don't board it by mistake if a Jungmun hotel is your destination. Since a 2017 system-wide reform, every Jeju bus (express 1xx, trunk 2/3/5xx, branch 4/6/7xx, tour-circulation 810/820) boards with a transit card — there's no ticket counter to find.
